There’s a free classical music concert at the Hatch Shell on the Esplanade tonight from 7-9PM. Boston Landmarks Orchestra will be playing . It looks like it will be a great night to sit under the stars and enjoy live music.
We captured this photograph of the Arthur Fiedler sculpture on the esplanade a few weeks ago. Fiedler was the conductor of the Boston PopsOrchestra for over 50 years and was a proponent of bringing music to the masses. He started the trend of playing classical music on the Esplanade for all to enjoy. Fiedler was born in Boston and was the first American – born conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra.
The sculpture was created by Ralph Hemlock in 1984 and is made of 83 sheets of aluminum. If you cross the Fiedler footbridge from Beacon Street and Arlington, you’ll find it close to the river’s edge.
